Welcome to our new website. The picture is one of me walking to the church on a Sunday morning after we experienced snow and ice. Not mimicking the slogan of the postal service, but just making a cold walk to the warmth of worship.
Wherever each of us finds ourselves in this walk of life, the community of church must offer support and encouragement through the words of the Bible and the actions of those who profess to follow Jesus. God, through the chosen writer of Hebrews, shares it in this way: “And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:24-25) Within those words we find the dual responsibility of faithful gathering together, along with the responsibility to encourage one another.
With a view to being a place that welcomes all, while calling us to share and show Jesus in our world, we begin this new website as a means of providing a glimpse of First Baptist Church, Dumas, and a means of our providing updates on the life and outreach of the church. On the pages within you will find information about the ministries of our church and the community we share within the church through worship, Bible study, and fellowship. Take time to look through the pages of our website and see what is going on at the church.
God has placed me here to shepherd the church. As I seek to do all expected of the shepherd, please feel free to call upon me with any questions you may have about the church and our ministries. In writing this initial pastor’s blog, I close with the verse that is a standard which I seek, though I fall short far too often: “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” 1 John 2:6
